Link Between Talcum Powder and Cancer

Recent research demonstrates that there may be a link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer. When used in the genital area, tiny particles can travel to the ovaries causing inflammation, which might allow cancer cells to flourish.

Talcum powder is made from the mineral talc. Talc rocks are mined and then processed by crushing, drying and milling. Even after processing, this mineral contains minute fibers that are similar to asbestos.

It is also important that talcum powder not be inhaled, and for that reason, it should be kept away from babies. Studies have found a link between talcum powder and breathing problems, pneumonia or even asthma.

Some medical personnel recommend corn starch as an alternative to talcum powder.

If you have a history of using talcum powder and have developed ovarian cancer, Strauss Troy would like to talk to you to evaluate your case. There is no charge for a case evaluation.

Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky Denial of Coverage for Hepatitis C Drug Harvoni®

A Bowling Green, Kentucky, resident has filed a lawsuit against Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky, alleging that the insurance carrier is refusing to cover the prescription drug Harvoni® — an FDA-approved medication that could save his life. The Anthem decision is contrary to recommendations from the patient’s doctors.

Between 3.2-7 million people are estimated to be infected in the U.S. and 70 percent develop chronic disease. Advanced cases can be deadly due to cirrhosis progressing to liver cancer, according to an Everyday Health.

The Complaint, which was filed in Jefferson County, Kentucky, Circuit Court on November 3, 2015, claims that Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky has caused the Plaintiff’s condition to progress, such that his disease is now at stage IV and jeopardizes his life.

If you, or a loved-one, has been denied coverage for Harvoni by Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky, you are entitled to a no-cost case evaluation.

Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Recall

More than 11 million Volkswagen diesel automobiles have been recalled. The recalled diesel vehicles include 2009-2015 Golf, Passat, Jetta and Beetle models. Some Audi A3 diesel automobiles have also been recalled.

Volkswagen installed a pollution control “Defeat Device” to work only during emissions testing. The pollution control equipment did not operate when these models were driven. Volkswagen deceived federal and state regulators, as well as vehicle owners, that these vehicles were “Clean Diesels,” when they were not.

After the recall fix, your vehicle will have the corrected pollution control equipment and will operate properly. Ultimately, however, this will negatively affect the performance of your vehicle.

Our law firm is investigating claims that Volkswagen’s conduct violated the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act. If you purchased a new Volkswagen diesel automobile in 2009 or after, and you would like to consult with a lawyer about the recall, we will not charge you anything for the initial consultation.

The Recovery By Bard Linked To Fatalities And Problems

A medical device to save lives, may actually be putting lives at risk for thousands of Americans. This news according to a two part NBC Nightly News Investigation by Reporter Stephanie Gosk that aired last night and tonight.

About a quarter million blood clot filters are placed in patients each year. Eleven companies sell them in the U.S., however, according to NBC Nightly news investigation, CR Bard’s version of the device is riskier – linked to 27 fatalities and more than 300 reported problems.

Those with high risk of blood clots may have received the Bard filter called The Recovery. The one and a half inch wire metal trap is placed in the largest vein in the body and designed to block blood clots from reaching the heart and lungs where they could be fatal.

According to an outside medical study obtained by the news organization, the device had higher rates of death, filter fracture and filter movement than all of its competitors. In one patient case, a piece from the device had broken off and pierced the woman’s heart.

Bard sold about 33,000 before replacing the device with a modified version and new name.
